How We Guarantee 100% Jain Food on Every Dubai Tour (The 3-Step Kitchen Verification Process)

From kitchen agreement forms to on-tour meal certificates — exactly how we lock 100% Jain food on every meal of every Dubai trip we run.

"When I started Arihant Travels in 2022, the question I got most from Jain families wasn't 'how much?' or 'which hotel?'. It was always: are you sure the food will be 100% Jain? So I built the whole company around answering that question with proof, not promises."

The problem with "Jain-friendly" travel

Most travel agencies that say "we offer Jain food" mean one of two things:

  1. "Vegetarian only" — but with onion, garlic, and root vegetables. This is the most common misunderstanding. A hotel kitchen hears "vegetarian" and serves you aloo paratha with garlic chutney. The family discovers it at the table. The trip is ruined.
  2. "Jain on request" — but the request never makes it to the chef. The travel agent tells the hotel; the hotel tells the front office; the kitchen never sees the note. The breakfast you eat in Dubai isn't the breakfast that was promised in Mumbai.

After our first 50 family bookings, we built a 3-step process that closes both of these gaps. Here it is, end to end.

Step 1 Vendor onboarding — written kitchen agreements

Every restaurant, hotel kitchen, and safari camp we work with signs a written Jain Kitchen Agreement before we send a single guest. The agreement specifies:

  • No onion, garlic, leek, or chives in any preparation served to our guests
  • No potato, carrot, beetroot, radish, or any root vegetable
  • Separate cooking utensils and cutting board for our orders, washed with new sponge
  • The chef on duty must personally taste and approve each Jain meal before plating
  • Photo of the final plate, sent to us on WhatsApp before serving (for first-time vendor relationships)

We currently have signed agreements with kitchens across Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. New vendors must complete two pilot meals (which our team eats first) before going on the live roster.

Step 2 Pre-trip menu locking — written, by email

Seven days before your trip starts, our operations team sends every vendor a specific menu request email with:

  • Your name, dates of meals, and number of guests
  • The exact dishes we want served (e.g. "Day 2 lunch: paneer butter masala Jain-style, kadhi-pakoda, jeera rice, fresh rotis, salad without onion, gulab jamun")
  • A confirmation we need back in writing from the executive chef (not just the front office) before the meal is "locked"

You receive a copy of all these confirmations 48 hours before you board your flight from India. If a single vendor hasn't confirmed by then, we swap them out for a backup partner and notify you of the change.

This is the step where most agencies fail. They tell the hotel "please arrange Jain" and the message never escapes the front desk. Our written email-to-chef trail eliminates the broken telephone.

Step 3 On-tour verification — sealed plates and certificates

On the trip itself, two things happen at every meal:

  1. Sealed-plate delivery for off-site meals. Desert safari Jain dinner is plated by our partner chef at the camp's prep kitchen, sealed with a tamper-evident sticker, and opened in front of you at your table. No mid-kitchen contamination is possible.
  2. Daily Jain meal certificate. Your tour coordinator (always reachable on WhatsApp) shares a one-page meal certificate every evening, signed by that day's vendor chef, listing exactly what was served and confirming Jain compliance. We keep these on file for 90 days after your trip.

What if something still goes wrong?

Despite 2,000+ tours, we've had three meals over the past two years where something slipped — once a new safari camp chef forgot the Jain note, once a hotel kitchen substituted regular paratha because they ran out of Jain dough, once a restaurant put a garnish of fried onion on a sealed plate.

In each case, we (a) replaced the meal within 90 minutes from a backup partner, (b) refunded the cost of that meal back to the family in cash, and (c) suspended the vendor pending re-audit. The third vendor never came back on our roster.

We're not perfect — but we have a written process for when we're not, and we make it right immediately. Most agencies don't.
